Two puma cubs, believed to be orphaned after their mother was shot by a farmer, were saved in Kalama in the state of Washington and have arrived at Philadelphia Zoo, their new permanent home. <br> <br>The cubs are about 21 weeks old and were cared for by Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife experts before being flown across the country to Philadelphia Zoo. You think the people of Maui have it bad? Think again. They might have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods, but that’s nothing compared to the time Joe Biden had a minor house fire 15 years ago. At least, that’s what Joe Biden thinks. <br> <br>Speaking during a visit to the wildfire-hit island, finally turning up after almost two weeks, Biden decided the best course of action would be to make it all about him. ‘Years ago, now, 15 years, I was in Washington doing ‘Meet the press’… Lightning struck at home on a little lake outside the home, not a lake – a big pond. It hit the wire and came up underneath our home, into the… air condition ducts.’ <br> <br>No one was hurt in the fire, but that didn’t stop Biden claiming his wife and cat were ‘almost’ hurt. Makes the total devastation faced by the residents of Maui sound trivial, doesn't it? <br> <br>This is not the first time Biden has rolled out a variation of this story either. Other versions include his house burning down with his wife inside, and the fire destroying a ‘significant portion’ of his home. In reality (as cited by a 2004 AP report), the fire was contained to the kitchen, and was out within minutes. The people of Maui will be so relieved to hear this.
A 10-year-old boy has been shot dead in Nimes, France in what is thought to be a shootout between drug trafficking gangs. The boy was in a car with his brother and uncle, which encountered a hail of bullets on Monday night. The boy tried to get out of the car but was fatally wounded. His uncle was also shot, but his brother was unharmed. One of the alleged shooters was caught on camera by an eyewitness. <br> <br>Following the shooting, officials have vowed to step up police efforts against drug trafficking gangs, and have said that the gunmen will face justice. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin told reporters, ‘This is a great tragedy which will not go unpunished.’

Six children and two adults are being rescued by the military after one of the cables on their cable car snapped, leaving the car suspended over a ravine in northwest Pakistan. <br> <br>Local residents spotted the car stranded 274m (900ft) above the Allai valley, and alerted authorities. Rescue helicopters have reached the car, which has been left hanging by a single rope, but conditions are not ideal due to strong winds and a worry that the helicopter’s rotor blades could further destabilize the cable car. <br> <br>The people have been trapped for over four hours at the time of writing, and officials are currently working on an alternative rescue plan involving reaching the car by ropes, should the helicopter rescue fail.

A massive fire broke out at the high-rise Xintiandi office building in Tianjin on Tuesday afternoon. Flames raged on the top of the 27-story building with a column of thick black smoke rising. According to the media, 284 firefighting and rescue personnel as well as 62 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.
