A new book explores why and what to do about it" and I'll read some sections from it and I quote: "America has seen a dramatic shift away from jobs requiring physical strength. Fewer than 1 in 10 jobs now require what's called heavy work, a sector once dominated by men. Friday’s jobs numbers from the Labor Department showed a continuing worrisome trend among men: A smaller and smaller share of them are working. Consider men of so-called prime-working age, 25 to 54. Sixty years ago, close to 97% of men in that group were working or looking for work. Since then, there's been a steady decline. In October, the number was 88.5%. In a new book, Brookings Institution scholar Richard V. Reeves sounds the alarm about the struggles of men, both in the economy and in society, pleading with policymakers and society at large to pay attention to what's going on and intervene. Titled Of Boys and Men, the book explores the economic, social and cultural shifts that have forced men to the sidelines of the economy, including the loss of jobs in male-dominated fields such as manufacturing and the influx of women into the workforce, diminishing the need for men to serve as providers for their families. Rather than try to recapture an era that is long gone, Reeves argues we should help men adapt to the jobs of the future — including many that are now overwhelmingly performed by women. In an interview with NPR, Reeves warns if nothing is done to help struggling men, families will become poorer and economic inequality will only worsen." Then the article has exerpts from an interview with Richard. He says that he was reluctant to write the book because if you try to help men you get criticized and attacked or asked 'Whose side are you on?' As if if you want to help men you have to hurt whamen. Soyciety is so obsessed with helping women thatif you bring up male issues then it can be seen as a distraction. Richard also has three grown sons. He says whereas he used to fret about three young men, he is now worried about millions. He says the male population has slipped back economically back to 1979 with regards to earnings. That there are stagnating wages for the majority of American men. And that's created this economic malaise. He says that many of the new male jobs have to come from the HEAL sectors — IE health, education, administration and literacy. In some ways, it's the mirror image of STEM — science, technology, engineering and math. Dear Stef- I’m writing to you because of recent events that have transpired in my marriage. A few months ago my husband called his longterm ex girlfriend and a few days ago, I discovered that he had her phone number saved in his phone. We have been together 6.5 years and married for over 2 years. We both have a history of family dysfunction, as well as relationship dysfunction. Our current marriage is my 4th and his 2nd. My husband and I were alike in many ways (before I was introduced to you)- hyper independent and completely disrespectful of the opposite sex. We both “self sabotaged” our relationships and both of us were extremely selfish and lacked empathy. We’ve both had emotionally immature ways of dealing with conflict. I’ve slowly learned how to handle my anger and hurt in more appropriate ways through listening to your podcasts. He has listened to a few of your podcasts with me, but he still struggles with accepting the truth and reality of who his family is and how they affect his life. I, however, have defoo’d from my entire family, with exception of my brother (who recently passed) and my cousin. (Both of my parents are now deceased. ) About 3 months into my current relationship, my brother began sharing your videos with me. The two that he sent me were “My girlfriend is in the attic” and “The dangers of dating a super model”. Those two videos are permanently burned into my brain. They began the profound change in my life that I had been so desperately seeking. I knew that I was screwed up, but I didn’t know how to change. Your brutally honest way of explaining things was EXACTLY what I needed to finally call myself out on my BS excuses for living such a morally bankrupt lifestyle. I will NEVER be able to repay my brother, nor you, for permanently altering my life for the better. Once you opened my eyes to what an absolute POS I was and had been for 40 years, I was overcome with grief and regret. I changed my mindset so drastically that my closest friends were left in shock. I now believe that I should fulfill my role as a woman and no longer feel the need to “be a man” or “not need a man”. Physically, my body is paying for “being a man” for the previous 40 years. I chose to completely change my lifestyle. I gave up my 18 year career and my horse ranch and dog rescue to move in with my current husband. I gave up my comfortable 6 figure salary to become a housewife. I gave up my dream home to move into an older house that is literally falling apart. The trade was worth it because the bond and commitment that I have with husband is more than I could have ever imagined possible. There have been so many times that I felt like I was going to burst at the seams because I so desperately wanted everyone around me to have this opportunity to live a life that isn’t full of mistrust and deception. I would share your videos and thoughts, only to be met with complete rage from other women. I gave up on offending people with the truth and decided to just accept the reality that most people aren’t searching for answers or truth. It seems like every time my husband and I have a conflict, we reasonably work things out and are closer afterwards. This one conflict has been the exception. I’m hurt. I feel embarrassed and disrespected by him. He has given me a few BS Non apologies and admitted that he was wrong- but in the same breath has tried to blame me for him calling her. He wants this to just go away and us get back to how we have always been. He says it was just a “stupid decision” and that he has always had her number saved. I need to figure out who is the bigger dumbass- him or me? And WHY did he do this?

Why do so many people lack any semblance of discretion with strangers nowadays, especially in professional settings? I can't scroll through LinkedIn without every other post being some woman talking about her abortion experience or a screed about destigmatizing an STD they caught. Is nothing private anymore? What’s your take on people who want to get you drunk or constantly fill your drinks, but aren’t drinking themselves? Is that a way of dominating or making sure you’re “safe”? I’ve had that happen twice in the last 4 years in family type gatherings. In both cases they were older men – one severely depressed, the other was generally submissive to his wife – a “nice guy” type. What are your thoughts having “guilty pleasure” media you enjoy? I was rewatching Pulp Fiction the other day, a movie I’ve loved for 25 years, and couldn’t help but realize “this movie has no virtue.” I’ve always thought of it as a guilty pleasure but now I can’t find redeeming value in watching it and turned it off halfway through. Do you have an guilty pleasures that you can still enjoy or have you come around on a movie and realized “this is actually trash and unhealthy” On my flight today a purple hair 20 something year old lady with a full blown gas mask on! Unbelievable!!! Stef why do females root for the underdog? Even when it’s clearly stupid or pointless? Ty! Some parents seem to be unable to admit their mistakes or take responsibility for their past actions. If I cared about my children’s futures, I’d easily admit my past mistakes – “Don’t do it! Why? Because I did it and now I have deep regrets to this day and you can still see the consequences in my life.” If you still indulge in bad habits as a parent, the least you could say would be “Don’t do like I do”, right? Granted, I haven’t ruined marriages, abandoned my children or committed crimes. What’s your policy regarding pocket money for children? At what point should they try to make their own money to buy bigger things like bicycles, electronic gadgets etc.? I know some parents buy expensive items for their children, but some encourage summer work. It seems beneficial in the long term, but it can create envy and resentment towards the other children and their own parents in short term. Do you think that familial trauma was a result of the violence and trauma of early human evolution, during the transition from animal to something smarter? Could it have been possible in your opinion that we evolved actually peacefully initially, and that some abusive people dominated and threw us all into a cycle of abuse that people will either escape through momentous efforts in self knowledge, or stay trapped within? Why do people use the phrase "agree to disagree" when they disagrree with you? Is this just an admission that they lack the capacity to form a coherent argument? Hey Stef. What is philosophy? I heard you put it in an easily understandable way the other day- Philosophy is learning from wisdom/first principles as opposed to learning through pain/experience. Does this sound right? President Xi Jinping is trying to bring about a bunch of initiaties to deal with China's declining fertility rate. But there is nothing that will be able to stop the demographic implosion in China. China is a hyper-traditional soyciety and having kids if you're not married is a massive social faux pa. Marriage rates just hit a 35 year low and the lockdowns aren't helping either. Between 2013 and 2019, the number of Chinese citizens getting married fell from 23.8 million to 13.9 million, a 41 percent drop. The one child policy means there are less people to get married so that's understandable. Plus not to mention that more of those born in the one child policy were males. I bet they regret ever introducing that policy now because 400 million souls weren't born. Not to mention that there is a changing attitude towards marriage in China where many women are edumacated and make their own money. Plus it's customary for Chinese men to smack around their wives and it's understandable that many women don't want that. The Chinese have this crazy saying where “If you don’t beat your wife every three days, she’ll start tearing up roof tiles.” A quarter of Chinese women are victims of domestic violence. So Chinese women can be forgiven for having second thoughts about marriage, especially if they were raised in an abusive household. I guess they just want to heal from that trauma and Liu Kang doing his finishing move on them every third night isn't going to happen. So they've gone sub zero or their own way from marriage. Another reason Chinese people aren't getting married and making babies is because of the crazy cost of living. The CCP wants higher real estate and other asset prices but that just reduces the marriage formation. China's GDP per capita is only 10k a year. Factory jobs pay 8k and good jobs pay 16k a year. It's expected that in 13 years GDP per capita will rise to almost 29k but I'm not so sure. Also it's hard to get married if you don't have a job. China’s youth unemployment is close to 20 percent. Well Rob thanks for that awesome poem as well as for giving you my take on that nine minute Ectolife video which I've linked to in the description that shows a fictitious company by the same name that claims to be developing the artificial womb. The 3d rendered video was made by Hashem Al-Ghalili and he's both a biotechnologist and filmmaker. He wants to edumacate the public about about how science and technology will impact our world in the future. Ectolife is the world's first fictious artificial womb facility where they can grow 30k thousand babies in small pods each year. Hashem was very careful not to upset whamen too much with this video. The female narrator says that a "woman and her partner will enjoy the delivery process" with the artificial womb. There is no mention that it's going to be single men that will use this technology to reproduce and that whamen will lose their minds as a result. But he does say that at the end of the term when the baby pops out of the matching the genetic identity of the baby is confirmed. This of course means that such a technology will mean the end of paternity fraud. Something women want to keep hush-hush but he walks that line very carefully. He also mentions that the babies are grown with green energy using solar and wind. Of course no mention is made of where the nutrients to grow those babies comes from. That certainly won't be a green process. Ectolife says they will be able to customize a babies level of intelligence and appearance. Who wouldn't want a smarter child than themselves? A woman most likely because then the kid would figure out all her manipulation. But making that choice will be burden when others choose to make their kids the smartest they can be. The ad is clearly trolling especially when you see an Asian woman from some stock video service directly singing to her baby in the artificial womb using a microphone. I thought that was hilarious. But his short film didn't get into the political aspect of how the genders would or more specifically wouldn't come together because of such a technology. This along with sexbots liberates men and makes whamen obsolete for the most part. They would become second class technological citizens.
