Is it time we start talking about toxic femininity?” The more recent conversations around toxic femininity seem to be coming from men’s rights groups who have been keeping a close watch on the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial. “Amber Heard, sobbing on the witness stand, represents the red-pilled man’s most cynical fantasies of womanhood,” writes author Jessa Crispin. These reactions tell us the phrase “toxic femininity” itself is a rhetorical tool that undermines legitimate critiques of patriarchy and masculinity. Toxic masculinity lies at the heart of everything from wars, systematic rape, domestic violence, and sexual harassment. At the core of it is not only upholding rigid gender norms but also enacting the suppression of women and feminized bodies. “This use of toxic femininity is a reactionary backlash against feminist discussions of ‘toxic masculinity,’” Hannah McCann, a University of Melbourne lecturer in cultural studies, told Vice. If we are to talk about toxic femininity, therefore, men’s rights activists cannot be the ones speaking." unquote. So that's condensed version of that article. Most of it was word vomit disguised as bullshit done to baffle the brain and sound smart. The only clarity in the article comes out when she attacks men's rights groups for using toxic femininity. Saying we shouldn't be allowed to point it out because if we do it undermines women's legitimate critiques of patriarchy and toxic masculinity. She's basically saying that when men speak about women's bad behavior we are hurting them. You don't want to hurt women now do you? So you better shut up. Another time two girls were caught running a scam. They would collect money from everyone to buy lunch. They would then buy a bunch of cheap pizzas and use the rest to go to an expensive restaurant. When work would provide food they got caught stealing that food. I overheard one girl giving another tips about getting pregnant and riding the government gravy train for life. She herself was going to have her tubes untied so she could get pregnant again and get more government money. We suspected one woman had Munchausen By Proxy and was making her kid sick to get attention. We suspected that she was taking bacteria specimens home and infecting her kid because he kept coming down with weird infections in places they don't usually show up. She was trying to have another kid but was too overweight so she got her stomach stapled in order to lose weight but burst the staples eating an entire bucket of KFC. There was an older woman who we called Crazy Mary after the song. Besides stealing people’s lunches, she was caught pretending to work but wasn’t doing anything with her patient specimens. She was constantly telling the male manager that somebody else wasn't doing their work when it was her. She finally got fired because she let a positive meningitis test for an infant sit around all weekend without calling the physician. A positive meningitis test requires a physician call because of its high potential for being fatal. Especially with an infant." The summary of the video is this and I quote: "In the 1970s, an international campaign demanded that governments recognise the value of unpaid work done in the home, primarily by women. Founded in Italy the ‘Wages for Housework’ movement argued that the entire capitalist system was based on free domestic labour. Witness History spoke to one of the founders, Mariarosa Dalla Costa about the campaign." unquote. The video says that housework is the only work that isn't considered work. It's also the only labor you don't retire from. You also don't get wages for it. Back in the 1970s in Italy women demanded free money from the guberment. That politicians recognize that the value of unpaid work done in the home. The campaign was setup in 1972 by an international feminist collective. But instead of giving women free money the establishment encouraged women to go into the workplace. After that many women had to do their unpaid labor at home as well as the workplace. If Italy had printed money and handed it to housewives the inflation rate would have spiked through the roof but productivity in the economy wouldn't have gone up. Inflation benefits the wealthy asset holders. So when women went off to work on mass everything became more expensive and real wages began to stagnate. A man's wage used to be able to be enough to pay for all of the expenses of a household because men are more likely to band together and strike for higher wages or walk away from wages they see as an insult. Women and men have different income distributions. This figure shows that women have a much more concentrated distribution at middle earning levels in Norway as an example, while at the top of the income distribution there are mainly men. If someone works less when they are taxed more, it is costly to tax them, as their behavior is distorted by the tax. Typically, responsiveness is measured by the elasticity of taxable income. My calculations show that that an increase in the marginal tax rate for women would reduce their pre-tax earnings by about twice as much as the same tax increase would for men. The question is still why women respond differently than men do? More women than men work part time, and this makes it more attainable for women to adjust their labor supply when their taxes change. In total, both the differences in income distributions and in elasticities could support the argument that women should pay lower taxes than men. One possible implementation of that approach could be to introduce a lump sum tax (fee) on men and give the proceeds to women. This would reduce both income inequality and economic distortions. We can observe a few countries that explicitly set lower taxes for women than men. There are often subsidies to mothers. It is also noteworthy that even though there are many advocates for equal pay, there are few advocates for lower income taxes for women. Different occupations have different salaries, and there are more women in sectors with lower pay, such as health care. If this is hard to change, why should governments not use tax policy to compensate women for their lower pay, at least until the gender pay gap is closed? In conclusion, even though tax policy could address the gender pay gap, it does not follow that gender-based taxation is the optimal tax policy. Horizontal equity may provide a justification for why governments, even though they worry about the gender gap, do not set lower income taxes for women than men." unquote.
