A Depopulation Bomb variant that removes approximately half of the population of the world in one stroke, namely one complete gender. In many stories, there is one survivor of the lost gender — the protagonist, love interest, or MacGuffin of the story.
If it is the males who die off (as is most frequently the case), the story will be about how the surviving women rebuild society, or how Fish out of Water males cope with a society that has already been rebuilt. If it is the latter, the Last Man on Earth, our protagonist, may initially think that his life is going to be all orgies and pampering from now on. This is classic Genre Blindness, as stories of this type almost never fit this pattern. The last man will quickly become a target, sought by every woman of power and means in the world, as his sperm may be the key to the survival of the human race.
This type of story exists for several reasons. Primarily it's to explore gender politics and behavior, but they also have the secondary benefit of providing an excuse to write literature in which most of the principal characters are female (a major change from a lot of fiction). In addition, classic gender roles, the glass ceiling and biology being what they are, the death of all men would effectively decapitate most of the world's organizational structure, meaning descent into chaos is likely, especially in stories set before 1970. This collapse (and probable renewal) of society provides an excellent source of conflict for writers to build their plot around. Finally there's Rule 34: being one of the few males alive (fertile or not) gives our protagonist the chance to seduce every woman he sees, which is a popular trope on the horny side of the Web.
Some hard-line feminist authors might create this kind of story as a utopian vision, in line with their view that men are the root cause of all the ills of society. Some anti-feminist authors might create exactly the same kind of story to produce a dystopia, to show that women, or just feminists, are the cause of all the ills of society. Still others take the stance that humans are the cause of most human problems, and that if men aren't calling the shots, women will still make the same short-sighted and foolish decisions (at best, all new short-sighted and foolish decisions). The total collapse of society in these cases is not because of some inherent flaw in female leadership, but because three-and-a-half billion people just died all at once, with all the problems that causes. Either way, the dirty secret of these stories is that they're usually there to impart some political message, sometimes subtle and unobjectionable, sometimes not.
When all the women die off, in a usually unintentional double standard twist, the story is usually less about politics or gender issues and more about The End of the World as We Know It. These stories almost always take place After the End, in either a cruel dystopia or a chaotic Scavenger World. Either way, the clear implication is usually that without the "calming presence" of women, the men will immediately nuke themselves to hell out of sexual frustration and other "manly" demands. Such a setting is of course highly prone to feature brutal male-on-male rape to add to the Nightmare Fuel, or for other reasons. Note this can happen with the women-left scenario, but much less often and with the rape part nonexistent. The sexist nature of the situation is more complicated still if the men are "fighting over" the remaining women (in which case, there's at least a reason for conflict).
It is worth mentioning that a society with a lone survivor of one gender (or a pool smaller than a couple hundred of each) would be doomed to extinction (unless the remaining women make use of the stored sperm in sperm banks). There's wouldn't be the genetic diversity required to survive for more than a handful of generations (and that's once you get over the Squick factor of having to know exactly how related you are before you reproduce). Scenarios that result in a single gender and try to introduce some form of "human parthenogenesis" would succumb to extinction even faster without some kind of applied phlebotinum.
The name is a pun on genocide, and was first used by Mary Anne Warren in her 1985 book, Gendercide: The Implications of Sex Selection.

Considering the large number of male-dominated societies in existence, it is understandable that fiction is open to the idea of the women occasionally wielding ultimate power. Lady Land extends the idea to an extreme level.
In a Lady Land, the population is predominantly female. Males may be considered inferior, used as sex slaves, or even expelled or murdered. This may create problems by leaving said society with no obvious method of reproducing outside of the sex slaves option. There's a very good chance that this issue will be brought up in-story, along with the issue of what happens to any male children born in a no-males zone. Some stories explore how a culture is affected by the absence of men by giving the characters other motivations. Other stories take it to the Logical Extreme as an Author Tract of how women are better off without men. This genre is known as "lesbian utopia" as it can appeal to a group of women without attraction to men.
This is a common portrayal of Amazon societies dating back to the original Amazons of Classical Mythology. While some Amazons were presented as heroic, the Greeks also often tended to depict their society as a whole as Straw Feminists to "demonstrate" why women should Stay in the Kitchen and not be allowed any power at all.
If there are no males at all, this becomes a One-Gender Race. Naturally, a proper Lady Land will be ruled by a Matriarchy. See Improbably Female Cast for when the cast is mostly or entirely female without an adequate explanation in the setting. Contrast No Woman's Land, the male chauvinist counterpart which is almost always depicted negatively. See also Persecution Flip, which is likely to happen if the Lady Land is overtly hostile to men. Compare The One Guy featuring a male character in this scenario.

I recalled you saying that precious metals are becoming less popular in favor of crypto currencies. There is a financial pundit claiming that widespread acceptance of crypto currencies (and then mandatory acceptance followed by exclusive acceptance) is one of the requirements for a society with social credit scores and massive restrictions of freedom. Do you ever worry that "It's a trap!'? Thanks for the great work." Well Steve thanks for the donation and topic. There are so many possible places that crypto came from. It could have been created by the CIA or NSA as a Trojan horse or Trojan token to get people to get used to using digital currencies by incentivising the early adopters to become as rich as lottary winners. The people that make big gains in the beginning of Crypto would encourage adoption. It starts with the promise of financial freedom with decentralized currency but eventually moves to central banks forcing everyone to use CBDC's or central bank digital currencies. Of course I worry about that. But without Bitcoin I would be more worried about inflation than I currently am. Adoption of the Bitcoin network is growing at 1 to 2 times the adoption rate of the internet in 1997 or 1998. Bitcoin might be the way to get us to give up our paper currency and precious metals. That's why I'm keeping my gold and silver as well as bank notes outside of the banking system. From my experience the financial wizards always throw an unexpected curve ball at you. Look at what happened with social media. First they gave us true freedom of speech on platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook and then later they took it away or clamped down on it. It all looks like an elaborate bait and switch scenario. Back from 2014 to 2018 when I was monetized and my channel was growing on those platforms I thought to myself how could the platforms not see they are letting ordinary people have a voice and influence change? How this all relates to women is that women will conform to whatever is expected of them. If Bitcoin brings up central bank currencies women will adopt them because all in the name of security so they can't be robbed by criminals. Meanwhile the real criminals are the central bankers stealing money through inflation and most women have no idea. Most see the number in their bank account going slightly up or staying the same in their savings account, if they even have one and they don't question what is money? Women welcome vaccine passports, social credit scores and central bank money the way they welcomed going to work when they convinced themselves they were free at work while being slaves at home. Putting women into positions of power and authority is going to speed up the change. All in the name of protection and safety. Women already operate based on an informal social credit system. So they will be fine under techno-fascism. I'll discuss more in a moment but let me first tell everyone about today's sponsor Chris Whalen:

She is an honorary god among mgtow because she dared to be a feminine feminist believing that equality begins with men learning the low down on women the way that women know the low down on men. That men are the oppressed sex and that we are happy in our slavery. I used to promote the book through ads on my channel and it's a breath of fresh air for a woman to say that men are the oppressed sex. The system doesn't exactly want men to learn about our slavery and walk away from the plantation.
