Flatland was another awesome book that I read and decided to create a book review. Differently from what I usually do, this is a total fictional book and it is awesome as well. Despite not being the traditional type of book I read I was also able to extract some good life lessons from it.

I decided to do a review on this awesome "Ring Video Doorbell". As you might know, I was missing a doorbell here in my new house in Pacific Beach.

So, today I've partnered up with an amazing amazing professional. In today's #hoa I will talk with Perry Marshall, the author of "Evolution 2.0", an amazing book which I had the honor to read.
Nowadays, Perry Marshall works as an internet marketer, being an expert in FB Ads, Google Adwords, etc. However, our talk will round more around the evolutional side of our world. Yeah... So, I'm really really excited about this book. as you all know, I'm a huge fan of "The 10X Rule" by Grant Cardone, one of the best self-help books that I've read in a long long time.
This is another one of his amazing books. Be Obsessed Or Be Average is definitely among one of the best books I've read this year and this should definitely be a mandatory read if you want to improve yourself as a person.

The Hero With a Thousand Faces is an awesome book, however, I would not recommend to anyone. Despite finding it a nice book with an awesome story, I figured that it didn't fit my needs as much as I wanted.
Someone recommended this book for me and since I read a lot of different books, I figured that it would be good to give this book a try.

Today I decided to review one of the best book I've read about leadership, tactics and strategy. This is a very nice book that will give you powerful insights and simple tactics you can start implementing to transform your life.

My Employee Lacks Soft Skills
Working for a company means not only knowing and understanding the technical side. More and more, companies are searching for employees that know their stuff, not only technically but also socially. And this is what I call soft skills.
Soft skills is a synonym for "people skills." The term describes those personal attributes that indicate a high level of emotional intelligence. Unlike hard skills, which describe a person's technical skill set and ability to perform specific tasks, soft skills are broadly applicable across job titles and industries. It's often said that hard skills will get you an interview but you need soft skills to get -- and keep -- the job.
In this email, I receive a question from an employer saying that his employee lacked soft skills. He was an awful person to work with and this was making the process of working with him undoable.

Getting a job has changed a lot over the last few years. There is a lot of new strategies you can implement if you really want to get a job as a software developer.
One of the strategies I like the most is getting in touch with companies you'd like to work for. For example, this strategy consists in reaching out to companies trying to help them.
First, you need to search for companies you'd be willing to work for, getting in touch with them and offering some help. People do this to me constantly.
However... They do it wrong.

Today I'll bring you another awesome (and very funny) book review, this time, from "Ender's Game".
If you haven't heard of this book and don't know what this is about, here it is:

GitHub has become a really popular tool over the last years among software developers. Developers are discovering an awesome way to use GitHub t boost their careers, share their coding projects with others and receive feedback so that they can improve their skills.
If you don't know what GitHub is:

How Do I Know That I Can Trust The Process?
If you watch my channel regularly you've probably heard me talking a lot about trusting the process right?
I've made one video talking about "The Secret Of Life", in which I believe is trusting the process. Trusting the process is something that we all should do. Trusting the process means giving something a shot until you complete what I call "the process". This means that you will not give up until you get your results.
People are usually a little bit skeptical about this. Some think this is bullshit and tell me that you need to keep adjusting till you see results. Other fear that they might have picked up the wrong process and, so, they end up abandoning it in the middle of the road.

So, a lot of you guys requested a Top 10 C++ Books and well... There you have it!
Lately, I've been doing a lot of different Top Books on my channel. I figured it is an awesome way of providing a good way to start for those who want to learn new programming languages or even for those people that want to study more about a specific language.
So, in this video I'll give you my Top 10 C++ Books. This will be an awesome resource for those who want to learn C++, especially nowadays if a lot of information overload. Having focus and knowing where you want to go will definitely make a big difference on how fast you'll learn C++
If you don't know, C++ is one of the most popular programming languages nowadays. It is a robust language and here are only a few of its pros:
- Is extremely popular, and therefore lots of support is available.
- Has a large base of freely available code for download, while also supporting direct integration with ASM and C.
- Is very powerful, and can be used to create just about any program, including low-level system programs.
- There is a compiler for C++ on every major operating system. C++ programs that are purposely written for portability will work on many major operating systems with little change in code.
- C++ is a language which is compiled (transformed from human readable code to low-level machine code), so it can often run faster than languages such as Java, Python, and C#; as it does not depend on an interpreter or a "run-time environment" which must be loaded beforehand.
- Has a long established usage base that likely guarantees support for the language will continue for quite some time.
- Many languages are based off of C/C++, such as Java, so knowledge in C++ will make it easier to understand these languages.
- Has a relatively small associated C++ Standard Library as compared to languages such as Java's Standard Platform SDK or C#'s .NET Framework, permitting greater versatility and reducing the system footprint of resulting compilations.
- Has been standardized by the International Standards Association as ISO/IEC 14882 with significant versions of the standard released in 1998, 2003 and 2011.
- Has a significant number of open source libraries available, including the Boost which are freely and widely available.

Recently, I did a video about if you should give people references. In that video, I talked about the importance of knowing when and how to give references, especially if you're talking about job references.

"John, what about the other way? If recruiters call you and ask for 3 references without placing you on a job, should you give them out? I have declined so far and told them that I don't give references and they've been ok with that because they had lengthy conversations with me and know that I know my stuff - can you do a video on this if possible? So, today we are going to talk about a really nice book, which is "The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck"
I'm really going to leave all my impressions to the video and not talk too much about it here. He has a unique writing style and it only can be captured in what I said in the video.

What Does C/C++ Mean?
So, I've seen a lot of people asking me this question, about what does C/C++ mean.
Well, for new software developers this might not make any sense, after all, why do these companies put in their job listing "we want a C/C++ developer"?
I've had this doubt myself back then and this is totally normal.
This is exactly what George asked me:
"What I don't understand is why I always see C/C++ in the job listing,as far as I know those are different languages and somebody told me that C is mostly for hardware and embedded devices and I'm currently not that interested in that but why do we always see the C/C++ thing and not only one language,do people really always use both languages at the same job?Is it a bad idea to leave C aside and focus on C++ because I am really interested in competitive programming right now?"

My Take On Joel's Article "Developer's Side Projects"
So, recently I came across this article titled "Developer's Side Projects" by Joel. Chris Hawkes, a buddy of mine, has recorded a video and he asked me what was my take on this article.
So, before anything else, I got pissed off. I got pissed off because I can't stand seeing people talk like that. In the article, Joel discusses side projects and how it relates to software developers, whether it is a good practice or not.
Here are just a few pieces from the article that really pissed me off:
"Most developers think that the work they do at work belongs to their employer, but anything they work on at home or on their own time is theirs. This is wrong enough to be dangerous."
"Every software company is going to want to own the copyright to the code that its employees write for them, so no software company can accept the "default" way the law works. That is why all software companies that are well-managed will require all developers, at the very least, to sign an agreement that says, at the very least, that..."

So, today I wanted to share with you one of my most incredible fitness achievements. As you know, I tend to run a lot and I've developed this as a habit of mine. Due to this amount of training, I became a running expert and I like to push my boundaries further as much as I can.
Lately, I've read a book called "Living With a Seal" where it talks about a lot about pushing your boundaries further. If you don't know, this guy was able to achieve AMAZING stuff, that no one has ever accomplished.
This changed my mindset and made me realize that I was able to do much more than what I was doing now.

Should You Take ADHD Medication?
Technically, I have ADHD. I don't even know what that means, really.
As a kid, I recall getting kicked out of preschool. It was pretty silly - all just some sort of misunderstanding.
Apparently, or should I say "allegedly", I was pulling some girls hair and I was climbing up the bookcases and jumping from bookcase to bookcase, pretending like I was a monkey.
It didn't take them very long before they figured out I needed to be on Ritalin.
But the Ritalin didn't last long. I quickly rejected it.
Even at a young age, I knew that I didn't want to be controlled by some medication.

There are some times when we really need to make a career transition and this can be a very difficult thing to do.
I've talked about transitioning from QA to Software Development but I've never dug into talking about the transition from SysAdmin to Software Development,
First of all, a SysAdmin is is a person who is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems; especially multi-user computers, such as servers. The system administrator seeks to ensure that the uptime, performance, resources, and security of the computers he or she manages meet the needs of the users, without exceeding the budget.
To meet these needs, a system administrator may acquire, install, or upgrade computer components and software; provide routine automation; maintain security policies; troubleshoot; train or supervise staff; or offer technical support for projects.
So, as you can see, a lot can be learned from those people wanting to transition.

So, recently I've been digging a lot on the science stuff. Since my Interview with Perry Marshall, I've discovered a lot of new and exciting stuff about science.
This is why I decided to read Cosmosapiens and I was delighted by it. probably the best book of the year.

► Candide (By Voltaire) (Book Review) ◄
It's been a while since I haven't done a book review and this is why I decided to bring the book reviews system back.
Today I'm going to review "Candide" by Voltaire.
Here is the book description, extracted from Amazon:
"Candide is a French satire first published in 1759 by Voltaire, a philosopher of the Age of Enlightenment. The novella has been widely translated, with English versions titled Candide: or, All for the Best (1759); Candide: or, The Optimist (1762); and Candide: or, Optimism (1947). It begins with a young man, Candide, who is living a sheltered life in an Edenic paradise and being indoctrinated with Leibnizian optimism (or simply "optimism") by his mentor, Professor Pangloss. The work describes the abrupt cessation of this lifestyle, followed by Candide's slow, painful disillusionment as he witnesses and experiences great hardships in the world. Voltaire concludes with Candide, if not rejecting optimism outright, advocating a deeply practical precept, "we must cultivate our garden", in lieu of the Leibnizian mantra of Pangloss, "all is for the best" in the "best of all possible worlds". Candide is characterised by its sarcastic tone as well as by its erratic, fantastical and fast-moving plot. A picaresque novel with a story similar to that of a more serious bildungsroman, it parodies many adventure and romance clichés, the struggles of which are caricatured in a tone that is mordantly matter-of-fact. Still, the events discussed are often based on historical happenings, such as the Seven Years' War and the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. ► Tao Of Seneca Letter 3 - On True and False Friendship ◄
"You have sent a letter to me through the hand of a “friend” of yours, as you call him.
And in your very next sentence you warn me not to discuss with him all the matters that concern you, saying that even you yourself are not accustomed to do this; in other words, you have in the same letter affirmed and denied that he is your friend.
Now if you used this word of ours in the popular sense, and called him “friend” in the same way in which we speak of all candidates for election as “honourable gentlemen,” and as we greet all men whom we meet casually, if their names slip us for the moment, with the salutation “my dear sir,” – so be it.
But if you consider any man a friend whom you do not trust as you trust yourself, you are mightily mistaken and you do not sufficiently understand what true friendship means."
This is part of Seneca's Letter about true and false friendship. I strongly believe you've been there too, haven't you?
It takes a while until we understand what true and false friendship means and, until there, we might end up hurt sometimes.
How many times have you been hurt by someone who you thought was a true friend, till, it ends up stabbing you in the back?
In this letter, Seneca talks about true and false friendship and why it does matter for anyone's success. During my life I got myself to a point where I do need to measure my success by the people I hang out with.

Here we go for another video on the flat earth and I don't care how it come off may it be how it may. I've got a lot of feedback on my last video about the flat earth, with mixed up opinions, some focused on the flat earth being stupid concept, others mentioned there is no evidence for the flat earth, some of you got my point and understood the idea I was trying to share with you which is "you must question everything around you, even if it's something simple and clear".
Now before we get to the point I was trying to get across in those videos, I will first address the biggest criticism I had there is no proof that the earth is flat! because probably a lot of you don't know about this tool called google which provides research results on a lot of subjects!
Again I'm not a flat-earther or a flat-earth believe but I'll show you in the video how you can access some proof and check for your own eyes what the other person has to say.
I will say another time, that my point you should question everything around you, even if it's science. Because even though we seem like such an advanced civilization we still aren't even close to the absolute truth, and that can be seen thousands of times across history when the idea or visions of one individual or a small group of people challenged or went against the mainstream one.
At the end of the day, how do you know you're not ignorant? you might say there is evidence and scientific explanation but here is the thing were you the one to make those discoveries? or did you pick it up from books, other people and mainstream narrative?
Let's do a thought experiment with the flat earth, round earth again. let's suppose you've never heard or had the slightest hint that the earth is round, and then I gave you all the evidence that earth is flat, every logical reasoning you can think of. Then someone appeared saying that the earth is round and producing evidence for that, you will at the same position you're now, ridiculing and ignoring his claims...
That's my point guys, stop believe everything you're told is true, because it can be wrong, start thinking outside the box and stop limiting your believes. The more you limit your believes the less accomplishment you'll have, the more unfulfilled,depressed and sad you'll feel.

There Are 3 GENDERS - Here's Why
I believe there are 3 genders: man, woman and boy.
Male rites of passage often included a young boy between the ages of ten and twelve being taken away from his mother for a period of time to live with elder men — strong males that would cut off his nurturance from his mother — in order to teach him to individuate from her as a man. It’s been said that girls naturally become women, but boys become men only with specific guidance, taking specific actions.
This is the purpose of these rites of passage — so that a man would no longer derive his identity his mother. He would not seek the feminine to teach him masculinity.
These rituals were often very taxing to the boy. He A would typically be pushed to his edges, which often included fasting or other forms of starvation from nutrients, physical edges pushed, and confronting mortality. Through the ritual, he formed relationship with death, which would then help the young boy find his place in the cosmos and the natural universe as a man.

A Man In Full (Book Review)
The time has come... For another book review. This time, a very good book about stoicism.
I'm not the type of guy who likes to read novels. I usually read non-fiction books and don't even bother about reading fiction books.
But I must say I really liked "A Man In Full".
Here is the book description, extracted from Amazon:

Yeah... I do believe in the law of attraction. I don't know how it works. I don't know the mechanisms behind it. I just know that it does work. And I've seen the law of attraction working in my life.
I've received a lot of questions asking me about how does the law of attraction work. As I've said, I actually don't know how it works, I just know that it does.
According to wikipedia, the law of attraction states that " the maxim "like attracts like" which in New Thought philosophy is used to sum up the idea that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts a person brings positive or negative experiences into their life.This belief is based upon the idea that people and their thoughts are both made from "pure energy", and the belief that like energy attracts like energy."
It basically means that everything you think or feel will be attracted to your life.

Everything Happens For A Reason... OR DOES IT?
Do you think you have life all figured out? Do you believe you know it all? You couldn't be more wrong.
Recently I received a question about something I said in my videos: everything happens for a reason.
Some people started to question me about this statement.
top thinking you've got it figured out—you don't.
Life is, and always will be, a mystery.
Not everything will make sense.
The truth we think we know about ANYTHING is just an approximation—a model.
Even science itself is based on models and theories, not fact.
The force of gravity is just an estimate.
What creates gravity, the mass of an object causing a bend in time-space, is just a guess.
If you are ignorant about something, be definition you can not know it.
We are all ignorant about a great many things.
Don't seek answers, instead seek the right questions, because if you keep asking the right questions, you'll discover precisely what you don't know... ...and once you see how much that is and how wide it spans, you'll have a much more open mind.
