Partially inspired by stories told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather Alfred about his service during World War I,[6] the film takes place after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich, and follows two British soldiers, Will Schofield (George MacKay) and Tom Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), in their mission to deliver an important message to call off a doomed offensive attack. Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch also star in supporting roles. Like Alfred Hitchcock's Rope, it lacks apparent cuts, looking largely as if filmed in two long takes.

I noticed the ages of the acts are accurate. Sargent and gens are older and privates and below are younger. Just like real war

Great movie, only one historical flaw; the Tommies didn't refer to their frags as grenades but called them bombs, named for the Mills bomb frags.

Enjoyed , but felt resentful it was for traitors not their country, culture and people.
