The term is "Planned obsolescence" in other words MADE TO BREAK! So you'll have to buy a replacement sooner rather than later!

I can guarantee you who conceived this had no such concept. This in particular was made to last, the proof is it is still here, and is still working, even with that capacitor in that shape. Because the economists and accountants figured out that disposable planned obsolescence in engineering and manufacturing was more profitable (at least in the short-term). And since they don't give a shit about the preservation of civilization - only their own bottom-line within their own lifetimes - you see where it's led us.
