There was a whole thing to import gum trees (eucalyptus) from Australia, into America.
Only the quarantine issues, was to exclude the "pests" that eat gum trees in Australia.

So the eucalyptus trees in America, instead of dropping all their pest infested lower limbs and only developing a tall trunk and a crown of leaves..... They grew up into HUGE fucking pine tree like monsters with 10 x the foliage of Australian trees.....

And so anytime there was a HUGE big hot fire with very low humidity, heaps of leaf litter on the eucalyptus forest floor, and hot high speed winds - these trees, would fume off their oil, and dense clouds of eucalyptus oil vapour, would flash into monster fireballs, so BAD Australian bushfires are something but the NATURAL PEST FREE eucalptus forest fires in the USA were something else again...

So the Americans said, "This is a fucking nightmare of epic proportions - lets find out what lives in Australia that can eat these trees and won't spread to everything else in America".

I think this was about 30 years ago....

I noticed that the eucalyptus trees in your back yard were not monster christmas trees, but they looked more like how you find them in Australia...

There is quite a degree of comfort in this.
