Eternal middle schoolers is true. They didn't make it in the adult hierarchy, but high school was the best four years of their lives. So they regress to middle/high school when they had it good, group up together, and continue middle school into their golden years.
The root problem is that we allow kids to form a separate hierarchies in the first place. Traditional societies put kids at the low end of the adult hierarchy, only higher-status than criminals. They didn't get to form their own hierarchy with different rules. This way, everyone wants to become an adult, and everyone is working toward fulfilling the adult standard from the get-go.

A Sub-5 man driving a bad ass car is still a Sub-5. If anything, he makes the car look inferior by association. Same thing with high-end motorcycles. A low testoserone male on a dressed up bike just looks ridiculous. The car or motorcycle must match the man. Only then can they compliment each other and gain Stacy's attention.

Individualizing culture and hierarchies is like trying to create your own currency. If it isn't backed by your looks, money, and status, then it's worthless. It is better for a common culture (currency) to exist. That way, it is easier to trade your personal value in a common market that the majority will recognize as valid. Even the poor and Sub-5's can find a market in that because the standards are established above the individual.
