All higher order mammals understand/sense which individuals are alphas and which are betas pretending to be alphas. If another higher order mammal senses you are weaker than they are they will challenge you for that position, be prepared to fight, it won't be to the death but until the weaker one shows submission, e.g. lying on one's back and showing no further resistence. However, some creatures will, through entitlement, assume they are superior and expect the other creature to merely validate this by ceding this status to the "entitled one".
