Wow - there goes the Dominican tourist industry. But if the locals don't get it, that the tourists are pissing and moaning over their typically tasteless food, and they make no effort "collectively speaking" to lift their game and make better food, well the tourists are going to go else where.
Many years ago, I had a good reason for chewing on some exploded truck tyre tread on the side of the road... I forget the reason... but it was a good one. Around 4 weeks back, I bought some steak from a meat supplier and a few weeks before that, some lamb chops, and a few weeks before that, some mince. Well the mince was dry and rubbery, the lamb chops were pretty tough.
I have never run across REALLY hard to chew off the bone meat like that..... But I thought, "You know, drought, limited meat supplies due to the corona lock down... and it's not terrible, it's not real good either."
But when I bought the steak, I think it was called stewing chuck steak or something like that, well rather than slow cook up a caserole with it, I'll slice a few bits off and just pan fry it. I was pretty hungry.....
When it came to eating it, fuck me, I have never had such TOUGH beef in my life.
A little piece 50mm long, 30mm wide and about 10 millimeters thick....
I was chewing HARD on it for 5 minutes, it was still a solid lump, and all I could think was, "This is what people mean when they complain about meat being like old shoe leather - it was quite similar to chewing on the truck tyre tread".
So I just threw the kilo of meat into a pot and slow boiled it for 4 hours and it was still as tough as all fuck, but at least I could chew it up.... I never went back to the supplier after that.
