i personally would love to live within one of these, but i wouldn't really love living way out in the boonies. it would be nice if the zoning laws were more loose in what's allowed as i like the off the grid living but i also wouldn't mind a hybrid kind of house. because your still living much cheap cheaper than you would in a regular home. and i would rather live in a home that's pretty much maintenance free.

the temperature that i prefer the most of the time within my house is roughly between 70f and 66f but the typical power requirements for the modern homes are rather expensive in comparison to these earth ships because the earth ship has natural earth insulation of several feet, the materials to build one of these can be anything it doesn't need to be tires, but the reason why they are using the tires is because is because it's much cheaper as they are getting them for free like most of the materials they build with. but the tires can also come with an issue if not properly sealed they can release a sort of gas that can either make you sick or it can kill you. i would have to look it up, but these folks have perfected in how to build these with the tires and all the issues that come with them.

i'm not sure if they have ever made one of these earth ships with a basement in mind, so far the only videos i've seen are only the one floor. but i would love to see a basement or maybe even an underground cellar. the guy in the video talks about these houses collecting their own water via rain fall and it can be limited. but this is another reason why zoning would be an issue because if you were to build your house near a water stream of your choice you could build a way for that water to reach your house, now you can still use the multiple filtering methods but you could also take advantage of the stream to collect power through hydro power, and depending on where your house is located might even be able to put up a type of windmill for power.

Someday I would love to build a house off the grid powered by free energy and get my water supply from the great lakes

@Shadow Monk: the costs to build one of these is significantly cheaper than the normal house for a few reasons. one is because the land is much cheaper in these areas and another is it has to do with zoning laws are far more lose but this also means you will be away from civilization and you will need to be much more independent on your resources and protection, however things like taxes are almost none existent and once you own your earthship, it's owned by you for life unless you sell it. and depending on how much land you purchased you can expand on the things you want more of like a garden and such. but it's still much more free living in a place like this.

he talks about that in the video. but it's also based off of the location and how much rain they get in that area. but your not limited to only choose these locations, these earth ships are found in various places and climates around the world and it all comes down to choice in what you want for the type of living you want. but it also comes down to how much you have to spend. and if you were resourceful enough you could build your own garden to create your own fuel like the bio-fuel like you mentioned and plant your own medicines. i doubt they are close to any medicine stores or stores in general. but then again you can grow all of your own food if needs be, this is why i like the idea of having a basement or a cellar of some kind within these homes because during the winter months ppl need some kind of food storage so they can reduce the trips needed to get supplies. but for the most part from what i have heard in these homes it's rare that they ever need to purchase water the house collects and filters the water for you there might be a little manual labor involved but it's pretty much self sustaining on it's own as the house collects the water and filters it and create's it's own power when using the solar power on the roof but you could get really creative and create power from other things, i like the idea of creating browns gas on demand for clean fuel.
