I thought that blasting ONE pillar was a good idea, because only a bit of it came down, and they would be filmed having do demolish it over the next few days... which is great PR footage.
There were also some BIG slabs that could be reclaimed, carved up and used for other things.
But the fracturing ability of high explosives (Brissiance) and given the fact that granite breaks kind of like glass, instead of like potters clay, I would have liked to see the same mass of explosives, split into four packs, and then each pack stuck to the side of each pillar, with a 20 Kg water bag over it, so it would punch a neat break through the centre of each panel - and across to the sides..
And the whole thing would just break into pieces and fall down into a neat heap.
I suppose just hitting one pillar and then leaving the PR laden remains up right for the demolition later - was a better idea.
Whoever blasted it though, knew exactly what they were doing and how to handle the granite.
Kudos to wiping out this fucking crap - either way.
