I can't tell if you are being cynical or not, but they have done archaeology and located the pool of Bethesda where this miracle was performed. The Jewish leaders and the Sanhedrin disliked Jesus for being able to heal this man and this led to some of his troubles for just trying to do good. Have you ever been at a point in your life where you legitimately helped someone or improved something and for some strange reason some outspoken types of people start to dislike you for doing so?, it is never all, but some? These are the problems Jesus faced along with the fallen state of man described in the book. The way of man is strange, and even when you try to do good, for some reason, your efforts are disdained by some. Consider, that Jesus was eventually crucified for these ways. If you truly knew of a way to help a man that could not walk would you not try to help him? Would you not think well of someone who out of genuine goodness tried to help a man that couldn't walk even if it was in his head? Do you think it is reasonable to be motivated to kill someone just for making a man like this walk? if it was a minor thing why would they want to try to kill Jesus for helping this man? There are forces in this world that for unknown reasons seem to try to prevent man from helping his fellow man. We are at our best when we our at service of others, using what special skills we have to do so. The evil people in this world have somehow blocked man from trying to be more like Jesus and because of this, the world sits in a state of disrepair. I hope things will change for the better and may god forgive the trespasses of man.
consider if you saw a man arise today, that acted like Jesus and began to turn things around in a righteous way, starting with the downtrodden, would you stand behind this man or not? In my view if I saw a man like this today who truly tried to heal instead of trying to gain for himself alone, I would be in awe and I would support this man in anyway that I could.
this video is from John 5 for reference for anyone who wants to read the story.
