Have No Expectations...But Do It Anyway?!

This phrase became popular around the turn of the last decade. It baffled the hell out of me for reasons stated and not stated in this video. What I've come to understand is that most people who say this usually fall into three distinct groups:

- Some people actually like the thing they're doing and can convince themselves they don't care about the result. Someone who's burnt out on movies, but loves film, will be able to keep their interest alive because they don't need to care about the result to still get something from it.

- Most people either don't have lives that are all that bad or find ways of convincing themselves this is true. A person who only sees a bad result 40% of the time can utilize this phrase well enough because they get what they want more often than not.

- Those at 'the top' frequently use propaganda like this to convince those beneath them to stay beneath them. To them, it's just propaganda - even if they don't believe it to be the case.
