Hundreds Turn Out to Protest Indian Hijab Ban

Many female Muslim protesters donned the coverings to rally in the face of injustice, turning out in their hundreds to demonstrate against a recent ban on hijabs and burkas at a college in Karnataka.

The southern Indian state has recently been gripped by the debate, with pro-hijab protesters claiming that it is their right to wear face coverings whilst studying.

The college ban sparked outrage with Muslims in India and around the world, with many seeing the burka ban as a thinly veiled attempt to suppress Islam practices and traditions by alleged Hindu supremacists.
