Whether its a car or motorcycle, unlike an Ebike (they have their problems to), seriously look at the LACK of Infrastructure their is to charge the damned things, especially if you live in tghe UK or Ireland. In the UK where there is little Infrastructure for charging or Electric compliance or acceptance they are planning to BAB, YES you heard it right BAN, Petrol and Diesel powered vehicles in - GET THIS - The Next 7 years. Yep1 150+ years of mechanical engineering and innovation is set to be forgotten? If this is immplimented I think they will realize when economies and finance collapses virtually over night they have made a big mistake. <br> <br>The Tech so far is big in the BUS Industry, but that isn't perfect because buses do not have the elevctric range to do a complete SHIFT without in the winter turning the buses heating off? Electric has failed in the past and it IS set to fail bigtime this time arouind with no alternative to fall back on at all? It's gonna be very interesting when this time in 7 years in the UK comes. The dysfunctional (((Reaganomics))) system makes it impossible to build a value-driven electric car on a traditional 3-box layout. Cars are no longer made to satisfy demand, no longer made to amplify the ego, and no longer made to provide value. Cars are made to INSULT the buyer, make the buyer look stupid, punish the buyer for the sake of "the planet," and the car is loaded with worthless CRAP to destroy the value proposition of the car.
The automakers are carrying so much debt that they are forced to put more and more and more CRAP on cars. The corporate idiots have to get more $$$$$$ per car and the only way to justify it is to put more electronic SHIT on every vehicle. ESPECIALLY electric cars! All of the functions that used to be handled by simple mechanical switches are being done by all this tech shit and then bloated with multi-function buttons, icons, and other shit that you have to cycle through to do what you want. Fuck that.
Lithium ion batteries have incredible power density but, the risk of disruption to the supply chain is high, the risk of fire is high, the risk of overloading the electric grid is high, and the pollution risk of disposing lithium-ion batteries is HIGH.
All you need is a 3-box platform car, like the Ford Fairmont. Four doors, no power crap, no electronic toys, lots of interior room, and easy to work on. Lead-acid batteries are old tech but, they are 100% recyclable, can be made entirely from domestic materials and labor, and are far safer than L-ion batteries. An efficient AC motor controller can give both good starting acceleration and economical use of electric power. The rear wheels should have regenerative braking and the front wheels handle the power, steering, and main brakes. What more do you need? A car like that would easily sell for $20K and would serve people's needs very nicely.
Granted, lead-acid batteries are heavy but, there's always a trade off and this isn't a bad one. I'm sure there's still room to improve the old lead-acid battery. Somebody has to come up with a new purpose-built lead acid battery system for the car that provides the most stored power in a given space. Easy to slide out and replace faulty cells as needed by the owner. THAT'S HOW AN ELECTRIC CAR OUGHT TO BE DONE.

I think if you had solar cells on the car AND a car port or roof with solar panels, and your trips were short, 200 or 300 + K's per week based upon free power..... It's a goer.
