this is partially how earthships cooling works, but this system they are talking about is more meant for the modern home.
and maybe the dude in the video is correct that ppl will start doing this within their homes, but i still think they would be better off doing this alongside other principles they do in earthships.
have you ever thought about living in an home that only has the basement finished and just building a roof on the top of that?
i have, because i knew how beneficial it would be to use these same concepts that earthships do to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter as they both use the thermal heating and cooling of the house being buried partially under ground, which by default will reduce your heating and cooling costs significantly, so even if you choose not to live within an earthship home, this style of home could also work well with some of these principles still being used.
i can't find any good examples in what i'm talking about on the internet. but i will try to explain the best i can as i'm not really sure there is a name for this kind of house.

so you see this house, now imagine a house that is finished by only having the basement as the main floor to your property, they have to dig access to the front of the foundation to create a door into the home, but build a roof top that is meant to be placed on the top of the structure and then they make the roof a garden or a rain collecting unit or something, what ever you plan to use it for is your choice.
but this design i have seen where i live, they are rare and not really commonly seen, but they do exist and are very good homes despite their look. in most cases when you see these homes, they were originally intended to build a full sized house on top but they ended up running out of money and couldn't afford the upper levels, so they just finished with what they had and called it a home, they have all the same things regular homes have, they are just a bit smaller than your average home.
