It's Lawrences fault we all have to wear crash helmets on motorcycles and bicycles...... Actually - I highly approve of the wearing of crash helmets.... Heads are not as hard as cars, concrete and kerbs.

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: For motorcycles I agree (albeit should still be the riders choice) but for bicycles? No, I think, and have always thought that was ridiculous!

@bigintol03: Hmmmm It's simple maths.... Head + Height above ground + speed + other vehicles (doors opening and head ons etc) + hard objects like cars, concrete, posts, poles and bitumen etc... The odds are greatly out of your favour without a decent helmet. And it's a calculation game... making this up to illustrate the point - 85% of all crashes on bicycles that result in the head hitting something = a knock, a scrape or a few stitches. 10% result in concussion, head injuries like broken head bones etc and 5% result in significant and measurable brain injuries and or death..... Or something like that... I have read a bunch of studies by the "authoratahs" on the subject, and I agree with them. I am also one of the very few that have survived a motorcycle crash at 170 Kmh and can state, if I had not of been wearing a full face helmet, my brains woould have been smashed all over the road..... and as far as being over 6' tall and riding an upright bicycle with the top of my head some 6'6" above the ground, - at 20 or 30 Kmh, well there is the mass of my head, the acceleration due to gravity at 9.8 meters per second squared and the forward momentum , and then landing onto the asphalt or brick or concrete paths... I am too tired to do the maths.... say 8 Kmh vertically, 20 Kmh horizontally - and a dead stop for your head, on a surface that has no give - asphalt = cracked skull / concussion / brain damage or even dead in rare cases. https://www.monash.edu/__data/....assets/pdf_file/0007 --------- https://www.monash.edu/__data/....assets/pdf_file/0010 --------
