Locals chant ‘Off with France’ as first French troops depart Niger

Crowd cheered watching the first convoy of French soldiers being escorted out of Niger by the local military. <br> <br>Earlier this year, Niger’s ruling generals, who ousted the pro-Paris president and took control of the country in July, ordered France to withdraw its 1,500 troops. <br> <br>The final destination of the French convoys has not been officially announced, but according to Niger’s authorities, the troops are heading in the direction of Chad. <br> <br>On the same day, the United States formally declared that Niger’s president was removed in a military coup, consequently suspending economic aid to the country.
