Throughout my life I have had a different view of suicide.
I have thought about suicide a lot and I have spent many nights reciting Shakespeare to my Colt 1911. My favourite is act five, scene five, of Macbeth, in which Macbeth delivers a soliloquy about the futility of life.
When my first girlfriend broke my heart, I spent months talking to that pistol during the nights. More than once the barrel went into my mouth.
The only reason that I did not pull the trigger was that I was an only child and I knew that if I killed myself it would destroy my mother.
During the following decade and a half, I came close to suicide many times, because I was so lonely. Women were not interested in me, because I was not a shitbag bad boy.
Eventually, the pain morphed into hate.
By the time that I was mid 30s, women were making moves on me . . . and I could not have been less interested.
I am still so lonely that I am dying inside, but the thought of touching a woman disgusts me. I find the internal contradiction to be fascinating.
