Mistake #2: Being in a relationship.
Marriage, and by extension, relationships, are a three party affair: Him, her, government, and that's if you're lucky. Odds are better that it's him, her, her kids, their father, an ex she's still hung up on, her baggage, her friends, and the government. As men, your only options are to play along with the game or don't play; beyond that you have no say, no power, only obligations and risk. Your 'authority' only goes as far as she allows, which means you need her permission to be in charge of whatever you're permitted to be in charge of and nothing more. You don't even have bodily sovereignty. So if she acquires your sperm and impregnates herself through surreptitious means (like that woman tried with Drake) you are legally obliged to her, ergo, your relationship is always him, her, and government.
Avoid making mistake #1; that's all it takes.
