This spider and the others like her, are fucking brilliant. I am not exactly all kissy, cuddles and tickle their tummies with them, but I am very affectionate about them all, and I will on occassion pick up the predatory hunting spiders on the floor, and move them, because I might be cleaning up, and I don't want to hurt them, or unknowingly send them out with the garbage. When handling spiders, they do get the vibrations, as to whether your intent is to help them or hurt them. You have to look at the world from their perspective - and handle them in a way that is kind and reassuring, and patient.

Whenever I had a hot shower, I'd let the room steam up and the spider would come out and drink the condensate.

The last 2 weeks, it has not appeared, I guess that means it has died.

Sad :( I really liked that spider.

Maybe it just got old and stopped, maybe Peanut got it and ate it, maybe another spider got it... who knows.

It was acting a little on the odd side, the last time it came out for a drink.

However, one of it's little ones is now living in the web.

I've always liked spiders. I will have a video on spiders and another on centipedes here in a while.

I bet by this point she had already killed and eaten the dad spider.

I dunno - I am not sure about these species of spiders doing that - I cannot actually confirm it. The Dad spiders are actually quite a lot smaller... soooo who knows. BUT I have seen other species of spiders hunting the other spiders in the house, and it's a full on stalking mission... kind of like a wolf stalking a carribou - the daddy long legs are out in their webs and the white tailed spiders are on the wall, feeling the silk lines to feel where the daddy long legs spiders are... and the daddy long legs KNOW they are being hunted... It's quite a thing to watch.... I have seen it maybe three times... I don't know why animals and insects are regarded as stupid things.. with no brains.... It's just like the guys preparing to go pig hunting with spears and how to go find them, how to hunt them, how to kill and dress the pig and bring it back to camp and how to divide it up and cook it and everyone gets a feed.... The spiders are exactly the same. They are REALLY going hunting....

https://animalcorner.org/anima....ls/black-house-spide BLACK HOUSE SPIDER REPRODUCTION When the male Black House spider finds a female in their webs, the male plucks the web of the female to attract her attention. Once the male has made sure that the female will be receptive, he can safely approach and inseminate her with his palps. They may then stay together for several days and may mate again several times. The female Black House spider constructs several white silk egg sacs, which are secured within the web retreat. The female stays with the eggs until they hatch. The spiderlings then disperse. The spiders mature during summertime and live for about two years.

https://www.spiderzrule.com/bl....ack-house-spider-inf BREEDING A female Black House Spider wraps her eggs in a flat white silk egg sac. She hides the sac in her web or near a nearby crevice. The mother guards the sac until the spiderlings hatch. Each spiderling produces milk thread’s, which are caught by the wind and carry the young spiders away.

I have seen the males running around - on rare occassions and I have seen them go up to the females..... never seen them fuck, or be eaten, and apparently no one else has either and there is nothing in the reports on them about the females eating the males....

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: I thought all female spiders did this but it turns out only some species engage in this "sexual cannibalism". Even so, from a survival standpoint male spiders are better off going their own way.

The common spiders in my house are the Cellar Spider (Pholcus phalangioides) and Adanson's House Jumper (Hasarius adansoni). I don't mind a few.
