Regarding speed signs, I generally stay within them - Type Red Circle, white Background with numbers in black i9n ythe circle. Lets a;lso remember that they come unsder "The Road Traffic ACT" and ACT generally in the UK is NOT LAW. Now speed limit sighns as already mentioned if they are mounted on a reflective YELLOW square or Rectangle are most definately NOT SPEED LIMIT signs but purely ADVISORY signage. tyhere are many of these in 30 or even 40 MPH areas with 20 on them, BUT that is purely ADVISORY with the yellow backing. You CANNOT be prosicuted for speeding on any speed signage with a Yellow rectangle or square behind it. This also applies to other singage with triangles that are on a YELLOW reflective background they are information anf advisory only. On UK rpoads ANY signage with a Yellow background is only ADVISORY. Sometimes they are crafty. there will be a sign like this yellow square put up and at some point they will remove the yellow as in area's where they want to reduce the speed. Then you can maybe get a ticket! Remember an ACT isn'tt LAW it's an act, they get round doing you by adding maritime or Corporate law by adding a fine on you for a misdemeener effectively.
