@Arealgoodusername: But what happened in Pompei was different people lived near of a volcano.. Sodom & gomorrah wasn't near of a volcano.. But I understand what you mean by that, it's similar for many things.. The thing is that science proves god words in many cases..I don't know if you heard that story about a man with his 3 wives in that time I think it happened in Gomorrah.. God contacted the man and said that he had to quit, take his wives with him and leave everything behind and God himself will give him a sign when to go.. Because the city was about to be destroyed.. God warned him that he will hear the screams of people in agony, that the entire city will be in fire but that he must not stop and look back otherwise he would be cursed.. The man explained it to his 3 wives and when god gave him the sign, he took his 3 wives with him fled the city... when they were about 2-3 km out of the city they heard the screams, they heard the sounds of destruction.. But one of his wife decided to look back and she was transformed in a stone / statue (like medusa stuff).. And that stone is still there but with the ages, sand storms etc.. the statue became a big stone like a menir.. And this stone is still there to this day in Israel, I don't know if they analysed it closely or that the stone isn't that cursed wife.. but Geologists came to analyse the soil of that city and they found carcinogene material at a certain layer of the ground.. And by analysing the layers they could estimate the time when it happened.. Which proved that the story was correct about the event which took place in that area... I'm not sure if it is in the bible or the torah but it's a famous story ..

@Doggk: The people who lived in Sodom and Gomorrah were cremated alive bone and all. But Lots wife was far enough away to take the ash to the face.
