... It can make it seem like the collapse hasn't "happened" (e.g. started) yet, even though it has started and is already in progress.

"The collapse is here. You're in it." Excellent perception and insight there. Only in the zoomed-out time scale of historical time do collapses (usually) happen "all at once." However, in the zoomed-in time scale of an individual human lifespan, collapses occur over years or even decades. While our current experience truly is something like a society-wide train wreck, we're subjectively experiencing this train wreck in slow motion -- very very very slow motion ....
