Technology is another culprit. As I have said elsewhere - it is easy to not need the hunter when the drive-thru window is 24 hours, it is easy to "work" all day when the Air-conditioner and refrigerator are running, and it's funny how moving into an apartment as opposed to (literally) building a house can make finding shelter a little less difficult. Politics (as related to the word Polis or better metropolis/city) are a product of "civilization" and as Robert Erwin Howard put it in his original Conan stories (Beyond the Black River I think) how civilization is the unnatural state of Mankind and how barbarism is it's natural state and it always returns at some point.
