Drones are expendable. China won't start anything over that. They don't have the logistics to move men and material across the Taiwan Strait and achieve ANY surprise. They will have to develop and build a large troop transport SUBMARINE that will quietly transit the Strait and offload with little risk of detection. The Strait is shallow, which means it doesn't have to go deep or operate any longer than to submerge, transit, surface, offload, and return. Batteries and fuel cells can achieve that. It will require a broad beam elliptical hull for internal volume and allow large doors on the top deck to lower (surfaced!) and allow men and amphibious machines to come up and go ashore.
