Teacher and student brawl over Palestinian flag

A confrontation between a student and teacher turned to blows after an argument erupted over a Palestinian flag. The incident at Berlin's Ernst-Abbe school, which has a substantial Palestinian cohort, led to violence when a student refused a teacher’s request to put away a Palestinian flag after removing it from his backpack. The altercation, captured on video and widely shared on social media, saw the teacher slapping the student and the student responding with a kick to the stomach, although the inept camerawork leaves much of the fight obscured. <br> <br>According to police statements, the teacher alleges that the fight started when the student headbutted him, and the slap was self-defense, although this alleged incident was not visible in the video. The student’s family have rejected the teacher’s claim that this was self-defense.
