guess who rotated the exposed shaft and blades of a jet engine - in a demonstration old motor... by the clever use of a few fingers,. and then found out just how sharp, very square edges of turbine blades actually are, when you get a finger nipped by a slowly rotating blade, on the housing....

I am sitting here going, "For god sake, keep your fingers clear of the spinning bits....!"

Mass + Inertia + sharp square edges..... Ewwwww - Nasty.

I think this is what I learned this valuable life lesson on. But it was in a different part of the museum and the engine wasn't inside a case and it was well lit... And of course I could find out all about not getting your finger tips nipped in the rotating bits that you yourself made rotate....

You see it wasn't a bad thing to loose a few drops of blood from a tiny gash in the tip of a finger......

I consider it an essential prequalifier to not intimately fucking around with any running engine that has things that can catch sleeves or fingers or hands - because it's easier to observe the operations, and keep yourself away from it all - AND only start working on the apparatus, once it's turned off.....

It's easier to replace fan belts than it is to replace hands and fingers...
