Tfm, do your research...."cosmologism" was invented by William Pierce from the National Alliance back in the 80s or 70s (I am not that old to have witnessed this). It sounds a bit spiritual like Buddhism but that is just happenstance...it is very transhumanist and promotes humans persueing higher lifeform (genetic enhancement etc).

It was the French who were fighting in Vietnam in the 50's. The US didn't get drawn into the war until the 60's after the French had been defeated. Kennedy sent in some military advisers, but it really got going under Johnson. Nixon worked behind the scenes to destroy peace talks, so he could secure the 68 presidential election, it wasn't until the mid 70's under Ford that the last US troops pulled out.

Just now listening to the show. To all those guys who got degrees in health care and can't find a job in the industry. Always hearing how we are short of health care workers here in Australia. freakonomics demonstrated the explanatory power of a positive utilitarian model for human behavior, which is also the model that underpins, or ideally should underpin, modern economic policy.
a positive utilitarian model proposes that people project outcomes of their actions, weigh those outcomes with a rough utility 'score' and then choose the action that leads to the outcome with the highest score.
for humans it remains a 'black box' model where we dont really understand all the mechanics taking place in this process, though neuroscience is starting to tease the process out empirically. however, if you equate fitness to utility in evolutionary biology, you can make reliable predictions about which behaviors will propagate within simpler species, further solidifying its relevance as an explanatory model for organic behavior.
the average person is better off reading freakonomics to understand human decision making than a 1st year micro or macro econ textbook.
