Police are government goons. And the government is the top mafia. The more developed the country, the more intricate is the corruption and harder to detect. Under developed countries have their benefits.

If the country has natural resources, which allowed have, there's no difference whatsoever if it is developed or not. Pick any country in Africa, corruption is no different than Europe or US.

@The Man Inside: The corruption in under developed countries is overt and obvious. Which is easier to navigate.

@red maple: That's true. Over in those places you know the rules, meaning there are only the rules of the one you dealing with at any given moment. You go there, you accept whatever comes your way. For many it's death. I had an acquaintance who was in one of those countries, he was in a somewhat position of power, a frequent visitor to the finance minister, someone who would ride in the same car as the chief of the police, he had guards carrying AK-47's... You get the idea. He knew he was a target just like any other white man in there. He told me that this one time he was riding with the chief of police and his goons, 3 or 4 cars, and they stopped and lead was flying all over the place. He thought his time had come. It didn't that day.

@red maple: Another bloke who the father lives in one of those countries had issues arriving at the airport. He was not black enough, and he is black. He saw the police killing a guy who stole a radio. Yet hundreds of cars disappear from the port upon arrival from Japan (toyota), and no one seems to care.

@The Man Inside: Yes. You want to find a balance with some order but not so much order that the government is in your every move. But you need some functioning order where violence and theft is not the norm.

@red maple: Said it before, say it again. In a dictatorship you know the rules. May or may not agree, but the rules are clearly defined. Where I live, probably the same where you live, only tax laws have no room for ambiguity (pay x amount, the deadline is day y). Every other law is open to interpretation.
