Falling in love has a chemical profile. ( https://asdn.net/asdn/chemistr....y/chemistry_of_love. )

When you use a self-selected substance or other stimulus to change (or help you cope with) a difficult mental or physical state, you’re self-medicating. Popular methods include (but are not limited to):

Alcohol
Exercise
Psychoactive drugs
Compulsive and/or comfort eating
Shopping
Sex
sleep ?

All of these things change your brain chemistry, usually in ways that bring a certain amount of comfort.
So what does this have to do with anything? And what might “you just love being in love” mean?

Falling in love has a chemical profile.

You meet someone interesting. Infatuation slams into your jaw like a divine uppercut. And here comes the neurochemical parade!

You’re flooded with dopamine (focus! reward! pleasure!) and norepinephrine (excitement! racing heart!). Also phenylethylamine (PEA), which releases more of those first two chemicals, as well as increasing energy and focus, and promotes a positive mood.

These chemicals are major contributors to what we feel during a new romantic relationship. Some people call this the honeymoon period, and others call it N.R.E. (new relationship energy). It can be euphoric, exciting, and intense. It can blur judgement. It can greatly affect day-to-day mood and functioning. In short, it gets you high.

Can you see how someone might self medicate with this potent chemical cocktail?

Now that was one of the best, if not THE BEST description of the situation. ??
