@Amanley Load: Reminds me of my 8 years in the Cold War U.S. Navy. Contrary to the popular delusion that, when you go into the military, you're embarking on a great CAREER and a glorious JOURNEY. Contrary to the fantasy that you're joining a TEAM and that TEAM is part of a long and illustrious legacy that you can become part of............... BULLSHIT!!! The Fucking Navy has all the dull and stupid atmosphere of a nameless backwater federal bureuacracy outside the Beltway. The bullshit never ends and it has a very prison-like hierarchy as to who succeeds and who just survives. Only those who've been in can understand how upside down things can be in the Navy. I was in a lucky time window. I enlisted in 1985 and got out in 1993. That was after the pot heads were kicked out and before the EEOC / feminist social engineering went wild during the Clinton Administration. I can only imagine what a madhouse it has become since then. I will admit that the VA has taken good care of me since then so, I did get something out of the deal. Vets after me haven't done so well, though.

@Amanley Load: I'm sure nothing has changed in this regard: The military is best for those coming from really fucked up situations. Broken homes, poverty, and 3rd world countries. The modern U.S. military is NOT for anybody who grew up in a normal home and social environment! OTOH, if it's a stupid kid who is standing before a judge and he gives you a choice of prison or the Army/Navy, you'll enlist rather than go to prison. I knew a few like that and I could tell that the Navy was for them. 3rd Worlders that are brought in LOVE the military because of all the gibs and minority privilege. Back in the 1970's, Congress allowed the Navy to recruit 3rd Worlders if they couldn't get enough Americans to join up. When I was in, Flips (Phillipines) were everywhere. I even knew a guy from Uganda and he was promised citizenship after his 4-years of duty. I have no doubt that it's even worse today. Lots of women are in rates they have no business being in but, the EEOC only cares about the Jewish social engineering diktats. The White Man is always carrying the load but, never gets ANY love in the PR or recruiting propaganda. I wouldn't be surprised that, IN SECRET, we can't go to war. We're so full of misfits, feminists, 3rd World recruits, and the LBGTQ Mafia that it would be insane to get tangled up in a real fight.

If the Empire couldn't get enough Romans to sign up, then they recruited from the captured populations. Unlike the legitimate Romans, the barbarian recruits were strictly mercenaries.
