This is what I mean - when I say if your in a totally dark place, no full moon, no city lights etc., and if you look up the night sky and go "Wow! - Look at all the stars!"

And there are LOTS of them.

But when you don't even have proper astronomical gear to see other planets etc., such as fairly decent binoculars or a fairly strong cheap spotting scope etc., and then look at the night sky - and ALL you can see is horizon to horizon - billions and billions of stars and galaxies.....

And the whole night sky is crammed with them - so much so, they are crammed in like sprinkles on fairy bread.

But with the images from the new James Webb Telescope - the numbers of EVERYTHING out there - are just too huge, the distances are too huge, and the time scales are enormous...

And just the sheer amounts are beyond calculation and they are way beyond comprehension.

At first I was wowed by all this. But, since we've been lied to about everything else, how do we know this isn't a computer generated fake? Science, itself, has been seriously compromised and the whole study of space is now up for scrutiny, IMO. If they can see that far out, then how about aiming that Webb telescope at the nearest star, Alpha Centauri A and its companions, Alpha Centauri B and Proxima Centauri? We should be able to directly view any planets between them. Instead of depending on indirect symptoms and mathematical speculation.

@InfiniteMushroom: I was thinking the exact same thing, that I should go to the edge of the earth and look off just to be sure.... But I was concerned about falling off and seeing all the elephants standing up in an infinite heap, on the back of a giant totise. I thought - "An infinitely high fall could go on for quite some time".
