I wonder how many of those bikes needed a full engine rebuild after the trip?

I am generally appalled at much of the older gear, like the lack of air filtration etc., and the whole engine ending up in the sump.... I would have thought it patently obvious - sand, dirt, dust and oil = grinding paste = 1000K the engine is fucked.

Thanks Shane, I love these old bikes. I have a Royal Enfield Meteor, and a Chinese 1950 style Harley looky lijke because it was cheap and it is slow. It looks like that Black Indian at the beginning, great fun to ride as well. Love bikes generally had many but kinda gone of the Jap stuff recently because it's pricy and weird to look at, I like traditional bike shapes and sounds. thanks for posting enjoyed it much.

Yes it's an odd thing that when the styling went from the utilitarian velocipede that was easy to steer, and simple to operate and easy to get a leg over - the motorised bicycle in effect, with all of it's conveniences, they became idiotic and foolish - the whims of the stylists, rather than the practical daily drive.
