@InfiniteMushroom: Without all the make up and shit, men and women often look fairly similar. I was thinking that perhaps that this was a bunch of guys sending up the Women's Temperance Union. That or they are all plain homely as fuck.

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: Those are real women and they are homely as fuck. Back then, and well over a hundred years ago, photography was expensive and I doubt a bunch of guys in drag would pay to stage up a photo like this. And you are right, this is a Women's Temperance Union picture.

@InfiniteMushroom: The naming was more of a generic "type" of an alliance - rather than THE organisation... NOT a genius level memory or historical issue... More of a pointer in the general direction...... Actually the psycho bitches of Alanon - are cut from the same cloth and they are as idiotic as all fuck...... Nasty, vindictive, controlling, and insane..... I have scanned some of the "Temperance" type sites and histories - and yeah it is hard dealing with active addicts... so I think they were trying their best.... but dedicated piss pots tend to be a dedicated bunch... And the crazier the women go, and the more controlling they become, and the more insane the undertakings to stop the addicts... And the wilier the addicts become. e.g. Al-Capone and the boot leg / speak easy's and the moon shiners etc. I think to a degree, that we actually owe these women a debt of gratitude for trying to keep their marriages, families and societies together. Their resistance to the unethical and irresponsible dragging the world under might have helped save us....

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: Yep, there were many iterations of Women's Temperance organizations. You're right about the stabilizing effect that they had back in the day. But, unlike today, the women's temperance societies were striving drag the social order up out of the mud. Today's women are FERAL and are doing their part to drag us back into the mud.
