Before I had come to MGTOW, I was a self help addict. I had thought there was an inherent defect that had happened along the way, because I had a lot of difficulty relating with different groups of people, not just women. So I also read PUA material like a fiend ( no pun intended), hoping to find this inter-relational Rosetta Stone. Needless to say, I never found it, but I found pieces of it. The most interesting piece of usable info had come from a PUA dude that posed the question of ‘would you date you?’ He used this to segue into are you living the life you want to live, because you can’t convey happiness or sense of purpose in something you don’t have an interest in.
The key point here is men , especially men, devote a large portion of their lives mired in unpleasantries and boring and/or stressful shit that we have difficulty tapping into that mode. Because we lived our adolescence and adult lives looking through a gray grease and shit stained window. We’re just waiting for something to go wrong, or another bill or a ticket in the mail or a summons to court. How the fuck can you make someone want to come into a life you’re secretly wishing to escape yourself?
The thing is there has to be a time where you find something you love, not someone because they will eventually let you down or betray you. You can’t avoid that either, but having an activity or pursuit that you do simply because you love it. It can’t be what it provides because it will simply become a job without another name. But having these anchors or grounding elements helps you weather the areas of your life that you cannot control and basically have a sense of meaning. Men are raised with this idea that we have to accomplish some massive feat in order for us to justify the purpose of taking up space on the planet. And when you buy into that lie, you stop being a person and become a living task. It corroborates the concept that men are not human beings, but human doings and this is a recipe for unending strife and misery.
When you have something that kindles a fire in the dead dried wood in your heart, you become a living being again. But you live for yourself and those you love, and you begin to cultivate who you are and not simply who you have to be or who you have to be 40 hours a week. This cultivation of a new you will bring new people into your life and sometimes drive old ones away. Don’t keep people in your life that no longer have a place. That’s like trying to push teeth that fallen out back into bleeding sockets.
But also realize that we are all different men. We have different passions and interests, and not everyone will get what we are saying or even like us. And that’s perfectly ok. Don’t chase after the idea of having everyone like you, because no one will like you. Even you. But most importantly, like you and grow to love you. It’s difficult. But when you love yourself, you value yourself. You stand up for yourself and that becomes the seed of great things. Hope this helps
